Campbell Scott to Star in The Atheist for Culture Project

Campbell Scott is set to star in Ronan Noone's The Atheist, a one-man show about media, politics and obsession. The play is the second of two productions announced for the fall season of Culture Project, which will relocate to the Barrow Street Theatre while searching for a permanent home. Directed by Justin Waldman, The Atheist will begin previews on October 6, with an official opening slated for October 12.

Staged last year in Boston's Huntington Theatre and most recently at the 2008 Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Atheist is the story of a headline-hungry reporter who'll do whatever it takes to turn the tawdry predilections of a local politician into front-page news—until the scandal backfires and threatens to undo its creator.

In addition to The Atheist, Scott has played the title role in Hamlet at the Huntington and has made numerous appearences at Williamstown, including a 2004 production of Design for Living. His Broadway credits include Ah, Wilderness! Long Day's Journey Into Night opposite his mother, the late Colleen Dewhurst and The Real Thing. His film roles include the 2005 adaptation of Craig Lucas' The Dying Gaul, 2002's Roger Dodger and The Secret Life of Dentists and 1991's Dying Young opposite Julia Roberts, as well as appearances in Music & Lyrics, The Imposters, Big Night, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, Dead Again and The Sheltering Sky, among others.

Culture Project will begin its season with the New York premiere of In Conflict, adapted and directed by Douglas C. Wager from Yvonne Latty's book. A portrait of Iraq War veterans speaking out on duty, loss and the fight to stay alive amid one of the most controversial conflicts in modern American history. In Conflict begin performances on September 18 at the Barrow Street Theatre and will officially open on September 24.

In Conflict will travel to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe July 31-August 25 and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival September 3 -13, before its off-Broadway premiere at Culture Project. The cast of 11, all young actors who have been with the show since it premiered last year at Temple University, are the same age as the majority of today's troops.
